Fushkuni/Fukri

The word ‘fukri’ comes from the Standard Bangla word ‘পুকুর’, and the word ‘fushkuni’ comes from the word ‘(पुष्करणि’ (pushkarini) from the old Sanskrit language. Depending on the part of Sylhet, some people use the word ‘fukri’ while others say ‘fushkuni’.

Fushkuni

  • Betain fushkunir maze haṭraisoin – The men swam in the pond.
  • Ager mainshe fushkuni ṭaki fani khaiṭa – Before, people used to drink water from the pond.

Fukri

  • Amrar bariṭ ṭin ta fukri – In our village there are three ponds.
  • Amra fukrir maze mas marsi – We caught fish in the pond.
